What is RSS?

RSS or Really Simple Syndication provides news updates from a subscribed website, which includes blogs, news sites and podcasts in a simple form. You read these files in a program called a reader or aggregator, which collects the news from the websites you subscribe to and provides it to you in a simple form. RSS Feeds are indicated by RSS or the following icon:

When a user subscribes to a website with an RSS feed the RSS reader continually checks the user’s subscribed feeds to see if any of those feeds have new content since the last time it checked, and if so, it retrieves that content and presents it to the user.

Upon clicking on an RSS Feed, your web browser generally asks which reader you prefer to use. The most common RSS reader includes Google. Google has a special homepage you can start your browser up with that will contain your updated RSS feeds daily. RSS is a great way to capture all the news you like to read by going to only one site rather than visiting numerous sites.
